- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Germany V England - Athletics. DESCRIPTION: At the White City, Great Britain beat Germany in their athletic encounter. The 880 yards was won by Derek Johnson who set up a new All-Comers, National and Native record. In the Pole Vault, GM Elliott, the eventual winner, broke his pole while jumping. The Three Mile provided Chris Chataway the opportunity to regain the World record time, which he set at 13 minutes 23.2 seconds. SHOTLIST: 880 yards won by Derek Johnson from Brian Hewson. Pole vaulter (GM Elliott) breaks his pole. Start of the three mile race. Chris Chataway and Derek Ibbotson. Chataway leaving Ibbotson. Chataway winning.
