MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Conservative Conference. DESCRIPTION: Yes it’s conference time for the parties, the Conservative Party at Bournemouth and the Labour Party at Margate. SHOTLIST: LS of the pavilion. Shots of delegates. CU of Lord Woolton making speech - Today I feel that it isn’t the conference that’s been wound up but me. Shots of the cabinet ministers including - RA Butler and Harold Macmillan. Lord Woolton - To me it means a new confidence in this country and the Commonwealth as a course for peace. A new stream of opportunity with wealth flowing in ever widening circles and above all a sense of care and responsibility for the old, weak and unfortunate and for the children of the country all this, all this in all these things we have started on the road. The implicous and the carry forward belongs to you, to youth and to you, ladies and gentlemen. Various shots of the delegates clapping. Anthony Eden makes a speech, (seated next to Eden is Edward Heath) We are today of an exciting but difficult transition period. I’m quite sure that employment has never been so high. Quite sure that prosperity has never been so wide spread, perhaps the British people taken as a whole have never enjoyed a happier Summer than this one under these wicked tories, but we’re looking ahead and in this highly competitive modern world, our island has always to be in the lead or our people have no future.
