- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Hot Weather Story. DESCRIPTION: Heat-wave in Britain, temperature in the eighties. London’s squares were filled with workers in the lunch hour. A Royal Canadian Air Force Band entertained. Prince Philip played polo on Smith’s Lawn, Windsor Great Park. In the invitation mile at Ibrox Park, Glasgow, Derek Ibbotson finished in the second fastest time ever recorded. There were cooler kinds of recreation than athletics - the swimming pool. In the French and Swiss Alps, rivers swollen by heavy continuous rainfall, have caused floods and enormous damage. Sweeping across roads and railways, the waters have cut communications between France and Italy after the worst weather known at this season in these parts for many a year.
