- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Wimbledon Opens. DESCRIPTION: On the first day of the great tournament, 1953 Champion Vic Seixas was there with his wife. Althea Gibson, ladies singles favourite. And the reigning champion with his wife. Hoad and Darmon (of France) opened the tournament on the centre court. Hoad, winning easily, was out to retain his title.
