Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Rail Crash. DESCRIPTION: It happened in thick fog, the worst railway accident in the history of the Southern Region, and one of the worst in the history of the British Railways. A steam train from London to Ramsgate crashed into the rear of an electric train to Hayes, which was stationary between St John’s and Lewisham stations. The collision was not all, for a bridge was involved in the crash, and it collapsed on to the last coach of the steam train. Casualties were very heavy, over seventy deaths were soon reported, and the toll was even greater. SHOTLIST: GV of wreckage, smashed coaches, etc. Firemen working, by arc lights. Various shots of wreckage. Shots of collapsed fly-over bridge. Shots of welders. Shots of ambulances arriving, and stretchers being carried. 2 women and one man are interviewed, regarding crash, they live nearby and gave help etc. Various shots of debris.
