- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Explorer in Orbit. DESCRIPTION: Cape Canaveral, Florida, and a final check-up for the seventy-foot Jupiter C about to put the Explorer into orbit round the Earth. Then, after an agonising delay of sixteen seconds the rocket was off. Up into the sky on its swift seven-minute journey to put a bullet-shaped satellite into its orbit round the globe. Its distance from the Earth is to vary between 200 and 1,700 miles. Speed 18,000 miles an hour, weight about 30 pounds. SHOTLIST: There is a final check before the seventy foot ‘Juniper C’ is put aboard. Rocket ready for take off. Rocket takes off. It is a bullet shaped missile to go into orbit. Its distance from the Earth is between 200 and 1,700 miles. Speed 18,000 mph. Weight 30 pounds. This is America’s first satellite to go into orbit.
