Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Queen Opens Gatwick. DESCRIPTION: London’s second airport, twenty miles away from the capital, is easy to reach by road or rail. Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip came to perform the opening ceremony. She inspected a Guard of Honour of ten Airline captains and had a word with each of them. The Queen then made a speech, emphasising the great advantages of up-to-the-minute Gatwick, which has been described as the most advanced airport in the world. Meanwhile, near-by Crawley New Town, had been waiting to offer its welcome to the Queen and the Prince, who drove there after the opening of Gatwick.
