- Summary
- Civil war in Lebanon and in Beirut, the Capital, fighting took place right in the centre of the city. The rebels were forced back in temporary retreat. Mr Dag Hammarskjold, the United Nations Secretary-General, arrived to visit the Prime Minister whose house had been burnt. He had come to review the state affairs and to consult with United Nations observers already established in Lebanon.
