- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: New Pattern at Sea. DESCRIPTION: Big ships, big guns: that was once the pattern of sea power. But now, they battleship is a thing of the past. For this is the atomic age: and the new capital ship looks like being the nuclear-powered submarine. The Royal Australian Navy has established a modern anti-submarine school, to train its officers and ratings in the latest tactics. Here, illustrating a mock battle, Wrens, experts in writing backwards, plot the course of an action, on a glass screen. Then, on manoeuvres, training is put into practice. A Royal Naval Submarine plays the role of enemy. From the Aircraft-Carrier Melbourne, Gannetts fly off, to locate the sub. Its periscope is sighted, and the aircraft go in to the attack. Australian frigates fire a barrage of depth-charges. It’s vital training. SHOTLIST: GV ship. Same. CU bows of ship. Aerial shot submarine. MS same. CU spray over bows of sub.
