Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Air Race - New Records. DESCRIPTION: Interim report on the big race in memory of Bleriot. A replica of Bleriot’s plane was flown by Monsieur Salis, himself a pioneer airman. He continued the journey by a car on the period. Not out to break records, but to recall the past. Marble Arch now, and Billy Butlin in a hurry, with Donald Campbell eager to speed him on his way. Billy Butlin then sprinted to a Spitfire. This, together with helicopters and cars enabled him to make good time to Paris and back. At Marble Arch, Squadron Leader Maughan set out to break the record made by Group Captain Rider. From helicopter to Hunter, he beat it in both directions. 43 minutes 36 on the way back. SHOTLIST: GV start. CU sign. LS replica of Bleriot plane flying, same lands. MS taxies. Closer Salis leaves cockpit. CU Salis, same gets into vintage car. Pan same car leaves. Pan car along road, slip pan. MS competitor on mower. CU Billy Butlin clocks on. CU Don Campbell at wheel. Butlin jumps onto car, leaves, pan MS helicopter lands. Butlin runs to Spitfire. Pan Spitfire takes off. Paris pan car arrives. CU Billy Butlin. London MS Maughan clocks on. CU foot kicks down starter. Pan Maughan leaves by motor bike. LS helicopter lands Maughan runs to jet. Jet takes off. CU Squadron Leader Maughan.
