Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: St Lawrence Freed. DESCRIPTION: The St Lawrence river had been opened for the earliest shipping season ever recorded, but vast fields of ice drifting towards the sea jammed it solid again. For the ice-breakers, its was an urgent, round-the-clock job to make headway ten to twenty feet at a time, with over 20 miles of jams to be broken-up. The Manchester Miller, one of the first ships through to Montreal before the big jam-up, was free (like the river) and on her way home with her cargo to Britain. SHOTLIST: GV breaking ice path. GV icebreaker breaking ice path. HAS side of ship. MS bow of ship. GV ice breaker. GV ice. GV ice breaker (6). Same in port. MS interior cabin. MS buoy. TS buoy anchor dropped. MS same. MS buoy. GV Quebec. GV ship Manchester Miller (2).
