Summary

MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Racing Roundup. DESCRIPTION: The 350 cc motor cycle race at Crystal Palace was over 10 laps of the circuit. Miniham (number 76), Norton, was the winner, with Dawson (68) second. From motor cycles to motor cars, and the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Twenty-six cars took part in this race of 212 miles over the world’s most difficult circuit. Stirling Moss gave a masterly display. At the wheel of a Lotus-Climax, he took the lead on the first lap and fought off the Ferraris. Rain at the end didn’t prevent him winning at a record speed of over 93 mph. Next day, at Brands Hatch, after his great win in Germany, Moss started favourite in the big race for inter-continental formula cars, but was forced to retire with gearbox trouble when leading on the 24th lap. World champion Jack Brabham (number 2), in a Cooper, won this event at an average speed of over 92 mph. Enthusiastic owners brought their traction engines from all over the country to this rally on the Duke of Bedford’s estate. The Duke, himself an enthusiast, arrived aboard the splendid Iron Maiden.
