Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Prelude to Perth. DESCRIPTION: Brighton Stadium, and the final practice-meet for the British Empire Games teams. In the women’s 100 yards, Dorothy Hyman had it all her own way to win in 10.7. Now the men’s 100. Welshman Ron Jones, and England’s Peter Radford and David Jones all did 9.7, but Ron Jones took first place. The mile was won by Alan Simpson in 4 minutes 6.3. Derek Ibbotson came second. Adrian Metcalfe, one of our brightest hopes for a medal at Perth, won the men’s 440 invitation event easily in 47.5. Finally, the 2 miles which of all the track events proved to be the most interesting. John Anderson surprised everyone by winning in the very fast time of 8 minutes 40.4. SHOTLIST: Key scene.
