Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Protecting the Pilot. DESCRIPTION: At the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, they’re perfecting pressure-suits and other safety-equipment for crews on high-flying, high performance aircraft. Directly the blow-out occurs - the pressure drops and the helmet snaps shut. The suit inflates, and, warm or cool air circulates around the pilot’s body, allowing him to continue flying. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV exterior Royal Aircraft Establishment. MCU pressure suits hanging up. MCU man holds mask to his face (a breathing mask). CU needle on dial moving. CU breathing is recorded on oscilloscope screen. CU bellows. CU man with mask. MS pan - dummy in suit wheeled into chamber. MS dummy pushed into decompression chamber. MS door closed and fastened. CU handle being turned - pressure build up. MS man looks through observation panel. MCU window breaks - pressure blow out. CU pressure dial back to zero. CU crash helmet snaps shut. MCU suit inflates. MS crash helmet. MS pilot (not dummy) in suit. MS same. MS pilot moving rods with arms (for testing manoeuvrability). MS pilot gets up from chair and performs exercise.
