MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Ordeal By Fire. DESCRIPTION: A lifeboat enclosed within a shell of heat-resistant plastic has been developed by Bristol Aeroplane Plastics for saving lives during tanker fires at sea. 6,000 gallons of kerosene were pumped into an artificial lake at Pinewood Studios to test the boat under actual fire conditions. Besides 2 white mice the boat carried instruments to record the maximum temperature inside. Verdict: mice ok - temperature comfortable! SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV checking lifeboat before demonstration.
