Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Wimbledon Opens. DESCRIPTION: The world’s greatest tennis tournament - Wimbledon - on the opening day - a confident win for current title holder John Newcombe from Australia against his South African opponent Bob Hewitt. SHOTLIST: GV crowds outside. SCU Aborigine tennis star Evonne Goolagong. CU fancy hat with tennis rackets on front. SCU girl wearing it. GV pan John Newcombe and Bob Hewitt walk onto court. SCU spectator. SCU Hewitt, Newcombe on left, LV Hewitt serves. TV Newcombe returns, LV Hewitt returns. TV pan as Newcombe runs to hit ball. LV Hewitt serves. GV Newcombe returns, Hewitt plays a back hand, Newcombe runs at full stretch to return stroke, Hewitt volleys back to win point. LV Hewitt serves. TV Newcombe returns, pan as he runs to net to hit Hewitt’s return, but Hewitt easily catches him out of position, Newcombe drops bat - stumbles forward in dismay. SCU spectator laughing. GV Hewitt serves, series of volleys, then at 103’ Newcombe hits winning stroke. SV pan both shake hands over net. TV zoom in as they walk over to umpire.
