- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Derby 1931. DESCRIPTION: Folomain: Is any event more typically English than the Derby. Come with British Movietone News to Epsom Downs, see and hear the tipsters and bookmakers, watch the gypsies, cheer the King (whose birthday it is) and Queen, and enter into the joyous spirit of the festive occasion. This is Derby Day, and everything is set for the great race. Sub.1. 25 starters go to the post. Sub.2. Now see them finish again, in slow motion. Sub.3. Cameronian’s Derby! Mr J Dewar leads in his conquering colt, with F Fox up, winner at 7 to 2. SHOTLIST: Aerials over Epsom race course. TPS parked cars. People arriving in cars. Pan shot around Gypsy Camp to gypsy girl dancing in the group of others. Two little gypsy boys seated on grass eating. Close shot. Shot of the crowds walking around. Shot of tipster speaking to the crowd. Bookies. Busker playing piano. Tic-tack man making hand signs. Bookies and men placing bets. Other buskers. One man selling hairpins. Shot of the horses parading the field. Shot of the start. Horses come thundering past camera, legs only, good shot. Other shots of race and finish. "Cameronian" wins the race and is ridden by F Fox. Winner led in.
