- Summary
- COI synopsis: A suspension bridge buckling and twisting til it collapses demonstrates one of the more spectacularly catastrophic results of stress in metals... but more frequently the effects of stress materialize not as a bang but as a series of ultrasonic whimpers. Equipment developed in Cambridge detects these ultrasonic noises, giving an early warning of metal fatigue.
