- Summary
- COI synopsis: Coventry as a city has existed for many centuries. Here it was that, according to legend, Lady Godiva rode naked through the streets to obtain a repeal of heavy taxes. But to Joan and julius Evans, an American couple touring Britain, it is the new Coventry, where a modern city has arisen from the bombed ruins of the old, in which they are most interested. They meet the workers in this great industrial centre of Britain, visiting them in their factories, their homes and their clubs. The Lord Mayor of Coventry himself a retired factory worker, greets Joan and Julius in the Lord Mayor’s parlour and explains to them the voluntary nature of much of Britain’s local government.
