Summary
NoS Summary - A dance from the musical "Love Lies" Madge Elliott, Cyril Richard, Laddie Cliff, Stanley Lupino, Connie Emerald.
British Pathe synopsis: L/S of stage set with large number of the chorus dancing. They form a kind of human seesaw and two of the cast are lifted up and down into the air, then tipped from side to side. The chorus then do a kind of "hornpipe" dance. "Twinkling dancing feet and Madge Elliott and Cyril Richard’s whirling grace" are featured next. A couple perform a dance which incorporates spins and throws, Cyril dancing on a sofa and Madge falling off a table. "But, hist! Here cometh the rivals - Laddie Cliff and Stanley Lupino." The two men run on stage in a Tango dancing hold. They do a comedy skit on the dance we have just seen, throwing each other around and dancing on the settee. One falls off the table on top of the other. "Stanley Lupino just can’t help joining Laddie Cliff and Connie Emerald in a little lovemaking" C/U of Stanley using a stick type telephone. Laddie and Connie embrace. Stanley pulls funny faces then walks around looking sheepish and embarrassed as the other two continue to throw their arms around each other. Stanley tries to chat up a dressmaker’s dummy which stands at the edge of the stage. He moves its head about, whispers in its ear and kisses it. He then slaps his own face with one of the dummy’s arms. He moves the other arm so that it points to the door. He leaves, bumping into the French doors on his way out.
