Summary
NoS Summary - gadgets to ease the domestic round - egg timer, floor polisher, saucepan.
British Pathe synopsis: Intertitle reads: "Adam isn’t the only person interested in "Gadgets" - Eve today is keen on domestic novelties." The gadgets demonstrated are
i) an egg timer that rings a bell to warn you when the egg has boiled. One of those sand-filtering-through-a-glass-egg-timers is attached to a board along with a metal bell. When the sand has all collected in one end of the timer, the weight forces it to drop down and a lever attached to it rings the bell.
ii) a floor polishing device - similar to a vacuum cleaner, it has three revolving discs which polish the floor. We see a woman applying polish to each of the discs then using the device very much like pushing a vacuum cleaner.
iii) A special mirror that sticks to the wall by means of a sucker. C/U of a woman breathing on the sucker, sticking the mirror to the wall then opening her handbag, taking out her powder puff and powdering her nose. She then pulls the mirror off the wall and shows the suction device to the camera.
iv) Saucepan with a built in strainer (this apparently was the one the Queen thought so ingenious.) C/U of a saucepan, the lid is taken off to reveal a straining device inside the pan. The pan is tipped, the water drains out and then potatoes are poured out of the saucepan onto a silver plate.
