- NoS Summary - women making embossed pewter objects.
NoS synopsis: "An artistic hobby - and an art requiring few materials, and not too much skill." M/S of woman standing behind a table holding a large flat sheet of metal. She sticks a piece of paper on the metal then cuts around it. The paper has a design drawn on it. "After the design is traces on the pewter, the next stage is embossing - (a felt pad is used)." C/U of the woman using a special tool to cut around the design on the paper. Woman lifts the paper off, design is now embossed in the metal. "Filled, now, with plastic compound to preserve the embossing." "The "ground" is stipples with a punch". Another tool is used to make a texture on the metal. " --- and the result mounted --". Two pieces of patterned pewter are stuck onto a mould possibly made of wood. It seems as though she is making a vase. C/U of the finished article. C/U of a set of pewter items - mirror, clock, boxes, candlestick holders etc. - Keywords
