Summary
British Pathe synopsis: Malaysia. "The Rice Growers and the fertile fields of Sumatra" (sic) is the item’s subtitle. "There is rice enough for a million weddings." Panning shot of a Malaysian landscape - small dwellings, a lake, mountains, trees, etc. A paddy field. L/S of workers in the paddy field. Camera pans to show many people at work. There is also a large line of people who appear to be watching the filming. "A pretty place for a lot of hard work. M/S of men working in the field - they wear patterned trousers. "Elegant reflections." Plants reflected in a pool of water. Long panning shot of the landscape. "A machineless country where labour is the cheapest commodity." L/S of men carrying NoSles of rice on their backs. "They can’t use their heads so their feet have to do the work." M/S of group of people using their feet to trample rice plants. Men and women work together. "The fruit of the sheaf." A woman pours rice from a tray onto the ground. Group of women scoop rice up onto their trays then pour it onto the ground again.
