- Summary
- NoS Summary - docks at Rotterdam - coal is transported from cargo ships to railway trucks.
British Pathe synopsis: Netherlands. "At Rotterdam they are found - huge steel structures - unloading and loading the thousands of tons of coal for the Continent." Moving shot of the docks at Rotterdam. Various cranes and boats are seen. "And so easily can these monsters be moved into position." Closer shots of one of the cranes. Parts of the machinery move - buckets transport coal. "Then the work commences. Five tons of coal are lifted at a time." M/S of one of the buckets being lifted from a hold - it is full of coal. M/S of the ship from which the coal is being transported. It is the "Tosto" of Newcastle. Low angle shot of the cargo being moved around then dropped. "Here the coal is weighed, and when the ten ton mark is reached, it is automatically emptied from the bottom into railway trucks." We see the coal being dropped into a truck. "All day and every day these giants continue their work of feeding the Continental industries with coal." L/S of the docks with boats beside the large cargo cranes. The camera moves - presumably on board a boat. - Keywords
