Summary
NoS Summary - Sporty girls seen cross country running and rowing.
British Pathe synopsis: Wimbledon, London and Weybridge, Surrey. "No girls of the Old Brigade could keep pace with the cross-country lasses of the new Brigade." L/S of group of girls in sportswear (shorts and long sleeved sweaters) run towards the camera across a field. There is a windmill in the background. The girls climb over a fence. "Most passable, but hard to pass - " The girls run up a hill towards the camera. Various shots of this cross country running race. High angle shot of the girls running across a muddy field. "A gentleman near the back missed the movements - Here they are, Sir, slowed." We then see the girls jumping across a ditch in slow motion. "And as a change from the girls who step out on land, we meet some of the Sporting Eves who step in - a boat." Various shots of women rowers preparing for a race. The boats are put out into the water. "They don’t need a mother to guide them here." L/S of the girls making their way down the river in their rowing boats - other girls sit on the banks and watch. High angle of woman with a megaphone shouting instructions from a small rowing boat. High angle shot of two teams of women rowing past the camera. L/S of the race from the riverbank. A gun is fired to signal the end of the race. Shot of the girls rowing past as the sun sets.
