- Summary
- BFI synopsis: Crook Town amateur soccer team in the quarter finals; Crook play Walton & Hersham from Surrey.
NCB Commentary - The Durham township welcomes a horde of visitors from the South for the 4th round amateur cup tie between Crook Town and Walton & Hersham. Ex-miner Davison, Crooks centre half, gets massage from Charlie Peart, another miner. Supporters on both sides were active, each hoping for a win to take their team into the semi-final.
And a grand game it was. Crook, in checked shirts, were pressing all the time. Walton, on the defensive, were lucky to have a man like Amos in goal for them. Both Appleby, on Crook’s left wing, and Gibson, their inside right, kept him busy with a cannonade of shots.
Centre half Davison had a hard game keeping his forwards supplied and checking Herbert, his Walton opposite number.
But at full time it was still a goal-less draw. All in all, Crook were unlucky not to win. And unluckier still at the replay at Walton, when they lost two-nil. It’s a long time since there has been no Northern team in the finals. - Researcher Comments
