- Summary
- BFI synopsis: a children’s Christmas party at Clipstone, Nottingham.
NCB Commentary - At this time of year it’s the children who really come into their own. In Clipstone colliery village the few days before the 25th are as exciting to the kiddies as they are everywhere else -- maybe more.
Little June Atkinson’s off to school, but there’ll be precious little work done today. Instead, the children are busy getting ready for the festivities they know are just around the corner, and in sending off the last minute instructions that get delivered every year.
At Clipstone, and at many other collieries, Christmas is marked by a big party for the children, when mothers and teachers -- and fathers just up from the pit -- get together to give the kiddies a blow out that they’ll remember until next year.
And when it’s all over, and nearly time for bed, there’s that last important letter to post in the corner by the fire -- where someone’s sure to find it. A happy Christmas to you all, wherever you are! - Researcher Comments
