Summary

Rhodesian Spotlight synopsis: The Queen Victoria Museum has formed a children’s club which has acquired 160 members in 2 months.
Rhodesian Spotlight Commentary - At the Queen Victoria Museum in Salisbury the director, Col. Boultbee, and a member of his staff, Mrs. Rees, have organised a Museum Club for children. The idea has caught on and after two months there are 160 months. The kids are finding the museum quite fascinating. Some of the lectures are given by the more senior youngsters themselves - while the Museum makes specimens readily available. They become particularly enthusiastic about the butterflies they see around them. Mr. Rees finds some of their tastes rather macabre, they seem fascinated by ancient weapons, and satisfying that train, Col Boultbee instructs them in archery. It’s not altogether surprizing that they show promising results. Cuttings are organised to places of archaeological interest such as the balancing Rocks at Epworth. Apart from their geological interest, these rocks bear a number of Bushman paintings. On the spot lectures stimulate a desire to probe into the past, and do much to change the minds of youngsters who erroneously though that museums are as dry as dust.
