- First pictures flown across Atlantic show Washington’s tumultuous reception of King and Queen. Niagara Falls Mr Cordell Hull, US Secretary of State, welcomes King and Queen on behalf of government. Washington Six hundred thousand people line streets of American capital as His Majesty drives with President Roosevelt from station to White House. Queen Elizabeth follows in the company of the President’s wife. British Embassy Sir Ronald Lindsay, Ambassador, assembles fifteen-hundred privileged people to meet King and Queen at garden party. Intimate pictures show Their Majesties mingling with informal throng. These pictures depict a meeting of epoch making importance for Anglo-American relations, showing the first visit of an English monarch to the sister democracy of America.
