80,000 people see Benoist - on a Delago - win French Grand Prix (621 miles) at 71 miles an hour for nearly 9 hours. The British team, Musetti, in a Sunbeam, finished third. Ascari - one of Italy’s most audacious drivers - killed whilst travelling at 130 mph.
