Summary
Mr Baldwin unveils statue to Mrs Pankhurst, leader of militant suffragettes in the very shadow of Parliament and scene of many ‘battles’ in ‘Votes for Women’ campaign. "The World War came and militant Suffragettes laid aside their banners; they put on their overalls, went into factories, on the fields, nursed and made munitions - the revolutionary died, the patriot was born." (Mr Baldwin). [Cameraman: Starmer.] For a few brief moments, let the Pathe Gazette conjure up the past. 17 years ago, Mrs Pankhurst, her daughters, ‘G Drummond, Annie Kenny and suffragettes in thousands fought and suffered for ‘the Cause’. Truly is a life’s work crowned. [Source: Library.]
