Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Visit to France 1st Day. DESCRIPTION: Their Majesties cross the Channel aboard the Admiralty yacht "Enchantress" and are welcomed in Boulogne. President and Madame Lebrun welcome them to Paris. The first day is ended with an banquet at the Elysee Palace. The following day The King lays a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior of France. SHOTLIST: Their Majesties, the King and Queen leave Victoria Station by train for their state visit to France. On arrival at Dover, a fanfare is played by the Marines, and TM board the Admiralty Yacht "Enchantress". Cruisers of the Fleet escort them and Avro "Anson" Bombers circle overhead. On arrival at Boulogne, the yacht passes the statue of Britannia, before pulling up to the quay, where the royal pair are greeted by Sir Eric Phipps, and M Bonnet. After leaving Boulogne, their Majesties arrive at the Bois de Boulogne Station where they are greeted by M Lebrun, Madame Lebrun, M Daladier, and other members of the cabinet. Then they drive through the streets, escorted by the French Army past the Arc de Triomphe, over the Seine to the Quay D’Orsay where the Lebruns bid them goodbye. Later in the evening, the King and Queen attend a dinner at the Elysee Palace. King At French Soldier’s Grave - CARD 33914 HM The King, accompanied by Sir Eric Phipps, Admiral Darlan, General Gamelin, General Billotte, and General Gouraud, lays a wreath on the grave of the Unknown warrior in the Arc de Triomphe.
