Summary
33 drivers set off in this spectacular race, and at the 266th mile tragedy strikes when Bob Swanson’s car skids and the following car driven by Roy Roberts, last year’s winner, plunges off the track. Roberts dies later in hospital, but Swanson is not badly hurt. Veteran Chuck Miller whose car was also involved suffers only minor injuries. The race was won by Wilbur Shaw in a Maserati, the first foreign car to win in 20 years.
