Summary
Members of the crew of HMS Kelly take to the boats after the flotilla leader had been struck by a torpedo from a German MTB. Listing heavily to starboard the Kelly now becomes a target for an attack from the air. A volunteer crew remain aboard Kelly to make fast a tow line to their destroyer. With her foremost boiler room flooded her list increases and it seems she might sink at any moment. The volunteer crew and her Commander Captain Lord Louis Mountbatten fight to save her, and at long last she makes fast to her escort. After a 91 hour drama, Kelly arrives at a repair yard. Since then - these pictures having only just been released - Mountbatten has again been torpedoed, his ship Javelin being hit.
