Summary
USS Hornet - from its commissioning in 1941 to its destruction off Santa Cruz when attacked by Japanese aircraft and submarines. Attempts are made to take the ship in tow but fail. Men abandon ship, many of them badly injured and later transferred from destroyer to a cruiser by cable slung between the two ships.
