- Summary
- Prelude to the Battle of the Mareth Line. The 8th Army prepares for the advance. Petrol containers and ammunition boxes are loaded, NAAFI stores also. Royal Engineers remove mines from the path of advance and tanks carrying 6 and 25 pdr guns and Infantry advance. West of Medinine the Gurkhas overran the enemy, charging them with their deadly curved knives the Kukri. At night, sappers go out and blow up enemy tanks which although have been knocked out in battle can still be recovered and taken back to workshops. Just outside Foum Tathouine is one of the first outposts of the Mareth Line, a concrete and steel blockhouse communicating with the main fortification west. Montgomery is seen with Gurkhas and inspecting their Kukris.
