How to Access BBC Archive Content

Learning on Screen are excited to announce that our members now have extended access to the entire digitised BBC broadcast archive.

It includes millions of TV and radio programmes, including interviews and features with almost every major cultural, artistic, political and sporting figure of the last 100 years, as well as iconic dramas and landmark comedy programmes.

Content from before July 2007 was stored in a different way- so the processes for access differ depending on the date of broadcast.

Currently you can order programmes from the BBC Archive using BoB back to July 2007. If your institution subscribes to BoB, just login and use the search tool in BoB for available content.

Copies of programmes from before July 2007 can be requested using Learning on Screen’s extensive Television and Radio Index for Teaching and Learning (TRILT), our online database and ordering system.

Members can login to TRILT with their institutional login and make an enquiry about a historical BBC broadcast by emailing the TRILT URL to the services team: archiverequests@learningonscreen.ac.uk

These requests will be managed centrally at your institution by your Off Air Representative.

The service is only available to Education Institutions with an ERA licence and membership of Learning on Screen. The service is not available to members of the general public.
Please use your institutional email address when contacting us.

Please be aware that some archive content accessed via BoB may contain harmful language, images, depictions, views and/ or mistreatment of people or cultures, liable to cause harm, distress and/ or offence. BoB is an educational resource (operating in a similar way to an academic library) providing archived material for teaching, learning and research purposes and all content is only accessible via academic authentication. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact and learn from it in order to create a more inclusive and safer future.
