Hamlet_x

Synopsis
A multimedia film project directed by Herbert Fritsch based on Hamlet. According to the director’s own synopsis of this rather rhizomatic undertaking, the playtext was initially divided into 111 basic scenes which were converted into short film sequences. These in turn inspired 111 portraits of and interviews with figures the director imagines would populate Hamlet’s environment in our time, such as Claudius’ financial advisor or Gertude’s gynaecologist. These film ‘splinters’ take on various forms: some are animated, some are designed as advertisments, trailers, documentaries, etc. The impressive cast list includes not only well-known German actors and actresses such as Anna Thalbach and Rufus Beck but also theatre and film actor/directors such as Leander Haußman and Christoph Schlingensief.
