Master Shakespeare and Glendower
- Synopsis
- First of three programmes of ‘fact and fancy’ concerned with Shakespeare’s Welsh characters. According to Radio Times listing notes, the dramatic feature by H. P. Burton tells the story of the first production of King Henry IV, Part 1, and offers a possible explanation of the marked Welsh element in some of Shakespeare’s plays. The scene is set in the Stratford of Shakespeare’s youth. Characters in addition to Shakespeare include Shakespeare’s parents, Richard Field, James and Richard Burbage, John Heminge (who was to play Falstaff), and Thomas Jenkins, the Welsh schoolmaster of Stratford Grammar School.
