MovieMail has announced the DVD release of six Hyperkino editions of classic Russian films. Four of the titles have never been available in the UK before. The innovative Hyperkino format was created by Natascha Drubek and Nikolai Izvolov, produced by Ruscico and distributed in the UK by MovieMail.
The six releases are:
- By the Bluest of Seas (1936, Boris Barnet - UK premiere)
- Happiness (1934, Alexander Medvedkin - UK premiere)
- Engineer Prite's Project (1918, Lev Kuleshov - UK premiere)
- The Great Consoler (1933, Lev Kuleshov - UK premiere)
- Strike (1924, Sergei Eisenstein)
- October (1927, Sergei Eisenstein)
About the Hyperkino format
These films are presented in 2-disc editions - disc one features the standard film in a good print, with subtitles, while the second disc contains the film plus numerous scene-specific annotations, video clips and documents (in Russian and in English) which contextualise the film and enhance the viewer's understanding.
