Presented by MATT HOPPER. TRACK 1- CHRIS RIDER interviews LIZ SPENCE of Souther Water Authority about the Peel Common Pong. Residents are worried that the 2 million pounds improvement scheme to pump sewage from the Netley and Warsash areas to the Peel treatment plant could mean even worse smell. SPENCE assures RIDER that improvements have reduced complaints from 30 or 40 a month down to 2 or 3. JIM HICKS interviews JAMES VALLON, former lorry driver, now known as Kenny Gee, about his starring role in new musical Forever Elvis. Sings Don’t be Cruel. TRACK 2- GRAHAM WHITE interviews DAVID JACOBS who talks about his 42 years in broad- casting. He started in 1944, working for Lord Louis Mountbatten in SEAC [South East Asia Command]. Joined BBC in 1947 as news reader. Has appeared in Housewives Choice, Pick of the Pops, Top of the Pops, and Book of Verse. 36th birthday of Joan Armatrading. Sings Love and Affection. TRACK 3- CHRIS RIDER reviews this week’s news and sport. News - LYNDA COOK, murdered on Merry Row wasteground, Portsmouth. CHIEF INSPECTOR DAVID HANNA and DETECTIVE SUPERINTENDENT ROGER HODINOTT interviewed about progress of investigation. Taxi driver JOHN LIPPIT interviewed and describes passenger who he picked up in neighbourhood as in a nervous state. Surrender of PAUL CUMMINGS and LEON ROSE, 2 soldiers who went A.W.O.L. from Royal Greenjackets whilst serving in West Germany. Inevitably. he gets stitched up by shipmates about his musical tastes but they really appreciate the entertainment. PETE WARDMAN does telephone interview with MARTIN WARE, one half of Heaven 17. The group members are basically composers and would like to do film music. They sing Contenders. TRACK 5- JEAN PAUL HANSFORD interviews COLIN POPE and DR SUE GUBAY about attempts to save eroding IOW South Eastern coastline. Erasure sings Sometimes, displacing Berlin, as this week’s network No 1. TIMOTHY WEST currently appearing in The Signalman’s Apprentice at Southampton’s Nuffield Theatre, describes his ideal Sunday lunch which would be a picnic at Hawkesbury River, New South Wales. Menu would be fish with a good Beaujolais. Ideal guests would include Peter Ustinov and Janet Suzman. [Box 7]
