Basil Somner had a long career in the film industry, with roles ranging from script/scenario writer to Producer across documentary and feature film.

His cinemagazine career began when he was Assitant Director for ‘ANNUAL REPORT’ in Mining Review 1st Year No.12 of August 1948. He then has various other credits, including Producer of ‘DIGGING DEEP’ in Mining Review 4th Year Number 12 of August 1951, and his final credit for this series is for directing ‘VERTICOAL’ in Mining Review 7th Year No.7 of March 1954.

After this non-fiction beginning, Somner went on to work as Production Manager on a number of feature productions, ranging from ‘THE SECRET PARTNER’ (1961) to ‘CHAPLIN’ (1992), which appears to be his final credit before his death.
