Career
Suschitzky was trained at a photographic school in Vienna, but his first job in film was as an unpaid trainee assistant before coming to Britain in 1934 and then becoming a cameraman with Strand Films in 1937. His most famous work with Paul Rotha [qv] is ‘No Resting Place’ (1951).
He later became a founder member of Data Film Productions [qv] and a staff cameraman for Mining Review. His cinemagazine credits include ‘PITHEAD NURSE’ in Mining Review 1st Year No.8 of April 1948 and ‘PUSH BUTTON PITHEAD’ in Mining Review 8th Year No.2 of October 1954.
Wolfgang Suschitzky is the father of Peter Suschitzky, also a cinematographer.
