Career
The Duke of Edinburgh Award began as the Moray Badge started at Gordonstoun School in 1934. It became the Pilot Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for Boys in 1956, followed by the Award for girls in 1958. Over one million awards were awarded by 1992. In 2001, The Duke of Edinburgh, remained as Patron, but handed over the Chairmanship of Trustees.
In 1980, the Award Scheme sponsored an issue of the National Coal Board’s [qv] cinemagazine, Review, entitled ‘PASSPORT TO ADVENTURE’ intended to promote the scheme to young people.
