Career
Harry Starmer joined Big Ben Productions in 1913, but later became a news cameraman with Pathe. In 1920 he was sent to Ireland, where he worked with Jock Gemmell [qv], and is known to have filmed staged shots of the British army taking prisoners, although these may not have been used in the reel. His first known credit is for ‘NEWPORT HOSPITAL FETE’ in Pathe Gazette No.G1214 of August 1925. His next credit is for ‘SOUTH AFRICAN STUDENTS’ in Pathe Gazette No.1360 of January 1927, after which he worked regularly for the company. In 1934 it was noted that Starmer had been ‘with ‘Pathe Gazette’ for many years,' and he was still listed as with the company in 1938.
