- Summary
- Bremen, the North Sea port and city of 350,000 people, falls to British infantrymen. Their commander, Lieutenant General Horrocks, congratulates the troops in the city. Large numbers of German POWs march through Bremen, and civilians carrying crosses are on the march also, to bury bodies of Nazi victims. Only a short time before these people had served in the Volksturm and marched before Goebbels. Reports say that he committed suicide with Hitler, and his brother Hans is now in captivity bearing a striking resemblance to his brother Josef. Himmler, who is seen inspecting SS troops, is said to be trying to arrange surrender for what is left of the German army. Hitler will never again address huge crowds or parade through Berlin, his successor Admiral Doenitz is destined for a short reign also. Swastika emblem on Nuremberg Stadium as it is blown up.
