- Summary
- Her back broken and oil gushing out, the Torrey Canyon’s death throes have put into operation one of Britain’s biggest battles of the beaches since the war. Servicemen, civilian youngsters and the aged form a pool of man-power to rid the sands and the Atlantic breakers of the black slime which is devastating miles of holiday beaches. Unwitting victims of the filth are thousands of sea birds, bewildered and helpless, they are being rescued and cleansed. But their plight is only part of the drama against which a massive offensive is being launched to defend the South Coast.
