- Summary
- The Apprentice Boys Parade, a traditional Protestant march, was the peaceful prelude to days of violence. Stones were thrown from the Catholic Bogside area. Barricades went up. Within minutes the city was in the grip of the most savage and senseless rioting it has yet seen. At night, flames from the burning houses illuminated the scene of the conflict. Ulster’s agonising experience may hold grave consequences for the future.
