Summary
Pathe synopsis: The circus. The thrill of it is in our blood so Pathe Pic invites you to watch show folk and circus animals doing their daily work. You can see a patch of waste ground transformed into a tented wonderland in a five-hour miracle that can give 4,000 people an evening in fairyland. There’s fun, laughter and breathtaking spectacle as Billy Smart presents the world’s most famous circus acts in a Royal Gala Performance sponsored by the Variety Club of Great Britain. But there’s sadness too, as Chipperfield’s Circus hoist their big top for the last time in England. They’re off to Africa with hordes of animals that will see the land of their ancestors for the first time. Elephants, polar bears, tigers, monkeys - 158 animals in all assemble at the dockside for the final farewells. It’s good-bye to the circus but the antics of Charlie the Chimp keeps everyone in high spirits right up to the last moment.
