Summary
Pathe synopsis: Only hours to go before the staart of a big International Car Rally - and driver Paul Easter concentrates on those last-minute checks to make sure that safety really does come first in the seven-day event over 2,000 miles of anything from mud-tracks to motorways. Dawn heralds a ceremonious start to a week of excitement and drama captured by the Pathe Pic cameras. Ace rally men Paddy Hopkirk and Eric Carlsen are early starters but if opening-road [sic] motoring is limited to around 30 mph then the speedsters get a chance to show their driving skills on the flat on sections on private land. There’s still 2,000 miles and many checkpoints to go before they screech round the Snetterton race track for the final speed trials. This is a high-powered climax to a seven day endurance test for man and motor, yet behind it all is the vital rule - safety first. [Winner is Tom Trauna.]
